Let us present the headliner artist of our exhibition – JULIA TSELKOVA – a unique artist who knits and embroiders the North! She draws real paintings with a needle and threads on mittens.

Northern landscapes, fairytales and Russian folklore, Universe and the World of Little Prince – stories come to life on unique mittens that will not only warm your hands but warm your heart!

Julia was born and grew up in Gomel, Belarus. She got married to Vladislav and had a wonderful son. However her husband was always attracted to the harsh North.

He became a rafting instructor on the northern rivers – in Karelia, in Russia. For several years they lived in Belarus in winter time and in the northern part of Russia in the summer. All this time, Julia was engaged in creativity – she knitted toys.

Finally family decided to move to this harsh northern region. The choice fell on Murmansk – a Russian city located beyond the Arctic Circle, on the shores of the cold Barents Sea. In Murmansk, the warm Gulf Stream ends its course, so it is also an ice-free port city – the largest in the world which is located beyond the Arctic Circle. In winter, there is no sun – polar night comes and you can see the northern lights, but in summer, on the contrary – it does not hide behind the horizon at all.

Julia followed her husband to this harsh region and did not regret it! It was here that her mittens were born. Maybe it was the Northern Light that whispered this idea to her or she herself came up with it – artist doesn’t tell. However, Julia says about her work: “I draw the North.”

Most of the stories on her mittens are about northern life. Deers, sleighs, dogs, snow, and, of course, the Barents Sea.

The most amazing thing is that nobody ever taught Julia how to embroider! She doesn’t follow the rules, but she follows her heart and imagination.

People compare her to Vincent Van Gogh. The same miracle when simple lines can convey not only image, but also mood, thoughts and feelings. Only he used paints and she uses threads. Julia uses unique techniques based on satin stitch embroidery and her style is recognized at once.

Embroidery seems simple, something childish. You look at the mittens, and it seems so simple! But if you try to repeat, it doesn’t work. There is some secret that cannot be shared. You need to see and to feel differently. You need to be a Master.

Julia’s mittens became so popular that she didn’t have time to make all the orders, so her husband got involved and helps her to knit and to embroider.

The North can give a beloved work and world fame to those who love it with all their heart.

Центральное место в выставке займут работы волшебницы, которая “вяжет Север”!

Представляем вам художника – Юлию Целкову. Конечно, она не совсем обычный художник. Свои картины они рисует иголкой и нитками. По варежкам! Но, сначала немножко расскажем о самой Юлии, чтобы стало понятно, откуда такой необычный выбор.

Родилась художница в теплой Беларуси, там же вышла замуж, родила сына. Однако ее мужа всегда привлекал суровый север. Он стал инструктором по рафтингу на северных реках – в Карелии, в России. Несколько лет они жили зимой в Беларуси, а летом в северной части России. Все это время Юлия занималась творчеством – вязала игрушки.

А потом муж окончательно решил перебраться в суровый северный край. Выбор пал на Мурманск – российский город, расположенный за Полярным кругом, на берегу холодного Баренцева моря. В Мурманске заканчивает свое течение теплый Гольфстрим, поэтому это еще и незамерзающий город-порт. Самый крупный в мире из всех, расположенных за Полярным кругом. Зимой там не бывает солнца – наступает полярная ночь и можно увидеть северное сияние, а летом наоборот – оно совсем не скрывается за горизонт.

И вот в этот суровый край Юлия последовала за мужем и не пожалела! Именно тут родились ее варежки. Северное сияние нашептало ей эту идею или она сама придумала – не рассказывает. Однако про свое творчество Юля сама говорит: “Рисую Север”.

Большая часть сюжетов на ее варежках именно о северной жизни. Олени, сани, собаки, снег, и, конечно, Баренцево море.

Технику, в которой работает художница, она придумала сама. В основе – вышивка гладью, однако ее работы ни с чьими не перепутаешь. Есть, правда, один художник, который работал в похожей технике – Винсент Ван Гог. Те же штрихи, которые не становятся длинными линиями, то же непередаваемое чувство, когда простые черточки могут передать не только изображение, но и настроение, мысли, чувства. Только Ван Гог писал красками, а у Юлии – нити.

Рисунки кажутся простыми, чем-то детскими. Смотришь на варежки, и кажется – это так просто! Пробуешь повторить – не получается. Есть какой-то секрет, которым невозможно поделиться. Нужно по-другому видеть и чувствовать. Нужно быть Мастером!

Когда варежки стали расходиться по всему миру и Юле стало не хватать собственных рук на все вышивки, к ней присоединился муж. Теперь он – ее подмастерье, выполняет более простую часть работы.

Север может подарить любимое дело и мировую известность тем, кто полюбит его всей душой.
