This painting was inspired by great tradition of Maslenitsa. Maslenitsa dates back to the pagan times, when Russian folks would bid farewell to winter and welcome spring. The symbol of Maslenitsa is a round “blini”, they suppose to symbolize the sun,so by eating pancakes, people consume its warmth and energy. This holiday was always associated with huge folk festivals full of fun and games.
